WHAT TO EXPECT ON SUNDAY MORNINGS

Visiting a church for the first time can be intimidating—so, congrats on making it this far! We want to make it easy to walk through the doors this Sunday, so we’ve done our best to describe what our Sundays look like below. Also, below we’ve compiled some of the questions we’ve gotten pretty often from our guests. You’ll find the answers listed below.

EXPECT GOD’S WORD.

At Hagerstown Church, we firmly believe that the Word matters here—not gimmicks, hype, or the secret to having a more comfortable life. Every sermon, song, and prayer is rooted in the Bible, reminding us to look to Jesus for hope—life is too messy and complicated for a quick fix.

EXPECT JOY.

On Sundays, we gather to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and remind each other of His promises. This doesn’t mean that we wear a plastic smile—it means that in all of life’s ups and downs, we remind each other to find unchanging joy in God. We’re looking to worship in the spirit of Colossians 3:16 - “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

EXPECT GRACE.

We don’t put people on pedestals at Hagerstown Church—we believe that in Christ, we’re all in process. If you’re discouraged, doubting, skeptical, or struggling with sin, you’re welcome here! We want to grow day by day in our walk with Jesus, the Bible, and each other. We’re trusting God’s promise in Philippians 1:6 - “God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

WHAT’S THE DRESS CODE?

Things are pretty relaxed in terms of dress code. If you want to dress up, you won’t look out of place, but jeans are common and so are shorts. We want you to feel comfortable!

IS THERE ANYTHING FOR MY KIDS?

Yes! Hubtown Kidz is for kids through 5th Grade. Our preschool and elementary classes are going through the attributes of God. Our teachers are looking forward to meeting your children and teaching them how they can find and follow Jesus!

Parents are also more than welcome to keep their children with them during the service. We believe that family worship is important, and want children to engage in the service as much as anyone. Our preschool and elementary children dismiss after the singing to go to class. If you would rather your child stay during the sermon, that’s fine too!
